The Changing Face of Jesus by AAtheist The Changing Face of Jesus by AAtheist
If you like this kind of thing take a look at my facebook page at [link]

There is no physical description of Jesus in the gospels or the new testament letters, however when he was arrested Judas had to point him out to the soldiers, so it can be assumed he wasn't "funny lookin" or odd in any way.

This means that he would have been about 5ft1. Not the usual image you get of jesus is it?

As an interesting aside Sir Richard Burton was an English explorer who translated (actually, wrote -- that is, bowdlerized and invented) the first English language version of the the Kama Sutra

We actually spoke about this at church camp about two weeks ago, and we said that it was a way for people to relate to Jesus easier, in a society that is all about appearances it is easier to relate to those who look more like you.

I can understand that point of view, but I disagree that Jesus should change to suit other people. If God is all powerful he is certainly capable of making us accept Jesus as he actually was. Further he shouldn't have to force us into this belief. He could do it with reasoning and logic alone.

Yes, it is easier to relate to people that look like you, but that sets people up to be more orientated to discriminate against people who do not look like themselves, and further if your religion is correct, it shouldn't have to change in order to suit other people. In fact doing so dilutes the message and make me wonder what the original message was. If you can go so far as to change the face of Jesus, what else have you changed to make it more palatable for other people?

I don't agree with it either, and I'm not trying to justify it, I'm merely trying to explain why. I actually find more comfort in Jesus as he was, because there is so much racism in this world, and I'm just so glad that he can love someone merely for existing, as we all should and not based upon skin color.

A very nice painting, wish I had known about it when making this deviation. It is definitely closer than many to the best approximation of Jesus, but it is definitely very modern human depicted.
